I would like to thank Harris Ruben, Chris Smolenski, Tim Mcleod,
Anthony Rogers, Doug Rosser and finally David Anderson, for responding
to my query of the 7th of August, your help and advice is much
appreciated. Also, I offer my sincere apologies to the group, for this
belated reply, but I have been away, enjoying our wonderful weather, and
only recently returned from holiday, to find 2k plus e-mails in the
box.....

The overall concensus from the group, was to forget the dedicated BT
broadband package, and their specific computer requirements, and obtain
a suitable modem, together with a broadband connection, and forgo the
support, and services package that seem to be the "norm" on offer by
ISPs, and "go it alone".

I was very interested to learn that Tim Mcleod had done this, and has
been able to use an old 68k Mac with his broadband set up. My daugher
has her much loved, antique PBook 180c, which she has used through
school and university, and would be delighted if I were able to provide
a suitable broadband connection to the internet for her.

However, I am not a computer "boffin", I just want to use the beasts,
without knowing too much about their complex interiors and inter
connections, however, when making enquiries at the local computer
outlets, information is generally biased towards what they wish to sell,
and not how you can continue to use existing equipment. So, I now have
to learn something about Ethernet. I will delve through my thick Mac
books, to learn the basics, and maybe by following the general and
specific advice supplied by the group, I will be able to make a
broadband set up, with a better internet connection, and thus avoid
having to join the worm infested PC world.

Once again, thank you all for your help, and I will report back, in due
course, as to my success......sincerely, John. G3JVC.
