NO...NO....NO CHRIS YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY WRONG!

As a life-long Texas resident, and student of Texas history, perhaps I
can shed more lite on the subject.

The ballot boxes you refer to WERE NOT in the 1960 election, but were
involved Johnson's first Senate race against Texas Governor Coke
Stevenson. During that election, both candidates adopted a new method
of campaigning....that is, putting ballot boxes in a warm, moist place
allowing the ballots to grow. Coke Stevenson actually had some
precincts in which the ballot boxes grew well beyond the number of
registered voters in that precinct. This method was extremely common in
that election, was used by both sides, and was very mild compared to
the methods used in Louisiana. Basically, the race was really to see
who could steal the most votes. LBJ stole about 300 votes move votes
than Stevenson and gained the nickname 'Landslide Lyndon.'

Regarding questions about the 'Texas method' related to
executions..... we no longer use the rope because it messes up the
rope. The gun is used only when we want to avoid a trial (frequently)
and now that it is legal to carry concealed firearms this may increase.
We no longer use the gas chamber since it was too expensive given the
number of executions in Texas - we now use legal injection and recycle
the needles.
