Glad to learn of another ham who is interested in producing for the Mac
platform. My practice is to "use one of my Macs when I can, and my PC when
I must," but I am usually less happy when having to live with the
idiosyncrasies of Windows.
I went to your website and noted that:
"On the Macintosh side, there is no native OS-X version (though one will
come); it should run properly as a "Classic" application under OS-X,
however. A release may be done for older 68K Macs if there is interest."
Classic under OS X has never worked well for me; for example, my printer
won't work under OS X after I have launched Classic, so rebooting when I'm
finished with Classic is required. For this an other reasons, I have given
up on Classic and keep an external drive with OS 9.1 on it to boot from,
when I must run an older Mac program.
On my 400 MHz PowerBook G4, where I want to do most of my computer-based
hamming, I don't any version of OS 9 installed. That arrangement has worked
well for me, and I plan to keep it that way. So my reaction is: Please do
produce an OS-X native version when you can!
Also noted: "ezAPRS is intended to be a "starter" to APRS operation. Its
whole intent is to be simple. As a result, it does not support internet
access, it does not support direct connection from computer to GPS (but it
will work with TNCs that have GPS inputs), and it does not support
multi-channel or KISS TNCs. In this case, you get what you pay for!"
That's fair. My plan is to use APRS -- when I can -- to provide tracking of
the GPS units carried by others for ARES-supported runs, walks, and other
outings. Since I haven't used APRS myself, I don't yet know what my
requirements are, but I am hoping that what you're proposing will support
that, albeit with a suitable TNC.
