This brings up a good point - there are great deals available on used older
Macs. Some of which would be useful for ham radio work (G3 and better).
Check out the Low End Mac list, <http://lowendmac.com/lists/swap.html> for
example. I subscribe to it, and iMacs/etc do pop up.
