Well Carl, I have to congratulate you for trying so hard to make your
case but it just doesn't fly.
I created both MacDoppler and MacDopplerPRO.
MacDoppler costs $50.00, doesn't have 3D, but will run on the older
slower 68k machines.
MacDopplerPRO costs $75.00, has 3D, and prefers faster PPC machines
although it will run on 68k without 3D.
68k Machines don't support QuickDraw 3D - or any other kind of 3D
capability.
Both programs will track satellites, tune your radio, and point your
antennas.
According to your theory there are lots of Hams out there - like
yourself, who don't want the newer, better software, but after
MacDopplerPRO was released, sales of MacDoppler dropped to close to
zero and stayed there.
People can still buy MacDoppler today - but they don't. They buy
MacDopplerPRO.
No sales cycle there.
No designed obsolescence or deep dark conspiracy.
Just people buying a better program for faster machines because that's
progress.
The facts just don't agree with your theory no matter how hard you try
to twist them.
Are you driving a Model T Ford or a newer model ?
I suspect that unless you are a vintage car collector you probaly drive
a late model car because they are safer, better designed, pollute less,
and are just plain easier to drive and maintain.
Do the car companies and software companies make more money by selling
new models every year ?
Of course, because the people who work for them need to get paid every
month, not just once in a lifetime.
But what you seem to be implying is that there is no real progress,
that all the bells and whistles are basically bogus additions of no
real value designed only to serve the need for more releases and more
more cash flow.
I think this is a cynical view which is easy to hold, but impossible to
defend in the face of any real understanding of technology or economics.
