[Ham-Mac] Kantronics TNC with Mac?

Can I use a Kantronics TNC, either the KAM Plus or the newer KAM XL model,

with a Mac PowerBook, either a PB5300ce (117-MHz PPC 503e) or a PB G3
Wallstreet (300-MHz G3),

having the then-standard Apple serial (RS-422?) "printer/modem" port?

I have both Virtual PC 5 and SoftWindows 3, so I could run the
DOS/Windoze app. PAKET62 or the older DOS app. MSYS by emulation, but
I worry that

   (1) the Mac serial printer/modem port lacks an RS-232-C handshaking
line that the TNC and its s/w require; and

   (2) a Mac with Virtual PC 5 or SoftWindows 3 will have _timing_
problems. I have heard of timing problems with other real-time
applications under emulation.
