[Ham-Mac] Admin: Please check your email addresses

This new server software is MUCH easier than Majordomo. I've
transferred everything to my newer email account, I could no longer
send from the old one which was causing some admin-level problems.
And with the recent burst of activity, some dead addresses and other
problems have come up.
The first I would like to mention is forwarding services, such as the
arrl.net setup. It works great for receiving mail, but for mail
servers it is a nightmare. DO NOT subscribe to the list using a
forwarding address, the mail will show up on your end but if you try
to send a message to the list it will not get through until I tell
the server it's OK. So to keep my work load and posting delays to a
minimum, please use only the actual address for your email account to
subscribe. Coming from the same problem, if someone were to suddenly
disappear(account shutdowns, changes, etc...) those aliases make it
very difficult to track bad addresses. I am currently getting bounces
from [email protected]. That address is not subscribed to the list,
but is receiving forwarded messages, and since the account appears to
be gone, it all gets sent back to me with an error. Unfortunately, I
don't know which address out of the nearly 340 people on this list it
is being forwarded from.
Second, there seems to be some confusion about unsubscribing from the
list. It can be rather confusing if you're not familiar with the
server and you lose the instructions, but the current setup makes it
fairly simple. Just take a look at the header of the message, the
instructions are right there. Here's what it looks like:
>X-Mailman-Version: 2.0.8
>List-Help: <mailto:[email protected]?subject=help>
>List-Post: <mailto:[email protected]>
>List-Subscribe: <http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/ham-mac>,
> <mailto:[email protected]?subject=subscribe>
>List-Id: Mac enthusiasts involved in amateur radio applications
><ham-mac.mailman.qth.net>
>List-Unsubscribe: <http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/ham-mac>,
> <mailto:[email protected]?subject=unsubscribe>
>List-Archive: <http://mailman.qth.net/pipermail/ham-mac/>
All the basics for posting, subscribing/unsubscribing and other list
functions are sent with every message.
That said, it's time to get back to playing with the computers.
