I have been having fun downloading the MacNet software collection and trying
out some of the old favorites. The reset button has been getting a workout
though.
Here are some results on my G-3 running System 9.2.
I was glad to see SatTrak included in satellite and GPS collection. SatTrak
is as it name implies, a satellite tracking program, but it is also a
propagation prediction program and bearing/distance calculator. This
program, copyrighted 1990 and last updated in 1992, is still very useful
even after all these years. It uses the MINIMUF algorithm for the
propagation prediction. This program, written in ThinkPascal still runs
fine. I could not make it crash. While other satellite programs have passed
it by, this is still a very useful program to have in the shack. $20
shareware, but the demo version is very useful with just Print, Copy, and
Save disabled. Definitely a keeper.
On the other hand, MacShortwave 1.2, a propagation prediction program locked
up my machine and forced a reboot. I used to use this with System 7 and I
think that it started crashing with 8. This is on Volume 2, DX and all.
SmithChart was a useful transmission line tool. It locks up my machine now.
I guess I knew that since I hae used it before, but hope springs eternal. I
have used this with System 8 OK though. It was written in 1990 so it is a
bit long in the tooth.
More to come. The files are big downloads, but if you have the bandwidth,
definitely worth it. - Duffey
