John,
I have both 2300 and 3400 laptops, and find that MacOS 9.1 runs on the
3400 just fine, but takes up to much of what limited memory the 2300 has
to be useful. I run MacOS 8.1 on the 2300, which is considerably less of
a "Memory Hog" than 9.x where the Maxed Out 2300 is only 54Megs. My
3400 is Maxed out at 144Meg and fully tricked out, with a full
comp0ilment of PCMCIA cards for all the usual externals. (802.11b, USB,
Compact Flash & SmartMedia R/W, 10/100 Ethernet/56K Modem, ect)
I have one big problem with my 3400, and maybe some here, has the answer.
It came with 2G Harddrive. I have tried to replace this drive with both
an IBM 6.2G TravelStar, and an AppleRom'd IBM 8G from a Pismo, both with
the same problem. They both booted just fine untill I partitioned them
in to multiple drives. After that they both refused to boot any
operating system what so ever. (MacOS 8.0 - MacOS 9.1) I reformated
them using the latest DriveSetup from Apple, installed the latest
drivers from Apple, and also Third Party Drivers as well, all to no
avail. I get a bong, and a "Happy Face" than it just Hangs like it can't
find the OS Boot loader. Am I missing something here, or what? I can
reinstall the original 2G drive and everything works, but once a
partitioned drive is installed, NO BOOT. any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
