You'd probably want to try a given version on your system to verify it does
indeed work. The highest version I have run on a Quadra 700 ('040) is 7.6,
which is very stable. On later systems, I had nothing but trouble with 8.1,
8.5.1 and 8.6 both were very stable versions of 8.x (again IMHO, your
milage may vary). On a PowerCenterPro upgraded to a G3, 9.0.4 and 9.1 both
work, though I find 9.1takes a lot longer to boot.
