NOAA APT frequencies are 137.500 (NOAA 12 and 15) and 137.620 (NOAA 14)
MHz. NOAA 12 is switched off when it interferes with 15, I think it is
on now. The APT transmitter on recently launched NOAA 16 is dead :-(
NOAA-13 died a week or two after launch. Russian birds use 137.3, 137.4
and 137.85 MHz, I don't know which Russian WXSATs are still functional.
I believe there are two more APT sats scheduled to fly before the series
ends, and they go to HRPT (or similar) only.
Now that it is getting to be summer, you can get decent daytime pictures
on both morning and afternoon passes.
For tracking the birds, I'd recommend Mac Doppler Pro. You really need a
tracking program if you want to know when they'll be overhead, and what
type of pass to expect. Plus it's need to see where the sat is in
real-time, and it makes it easier to understand what part of the Earth
you're seeing. FYI, the satellite transmits a horizontal scan line for
the position it is presently over.
