Based on the schematic of the SM I downloaded from Mods.DK, that 9 pin
connector is NOT RS-232, nor for controlling the radio. Its a packet TNC
interface with 1200 and 9600 baud data pins, carrier detect and such as
that. It may now be smoked from getting too much voltage applied from
RS-232.
The OP manual should describe how to use it and any options of frequency
control the radio might have.
