Hey Bill,
Why are you so angry that some of us prefer a more customized version
instead of the default packages that you use? Are you actually trying to
pick a fight, or just upset that someone might know more about using the
system than you do?
With Slackware, those files are in my home directory, which is on a
different partition from the kernel, system, etc. So once I install the
update, I mount /home and everything is there. No muss, no fuss. I also
keep /usr/local on a separate partition, so I usually don't need to
recompile any of the applications there if I don't wish to.
