[Ham-Linux] Which Distro/Apps/Apps development software to use?

All of what you have mentioned is available.  Start with
http://www.linux-ax25.org/wiki/Distributions.  I personally like
openSUSE as it has the advanced installation options that others lack
and the Ham Radio programs available from their build service are quite
extensive.  They include at least 2 SDR's, xcircuit for schematics,
sound card oscilloscope, numerous logging programs, etc., etc.  I have
been running a server since 2000 using SuSE and DXSpider with and an
AX.25 2 meter link.

For development, GTK+ for GUI and kdevelop for C/C++ is what I use. 
There is Ruby, Perl, PHP, Fortran and just about any other language you
can name there as well.  Of course nearly all of the software has
sources to use as examples.
