It works nicely on a Dell Inspiron 8500 laptop as
well.
I had been using Fedora Core and Red Hat back to
version 9, because that's the distro that was used at
the university where I got my Unix/Linux
certification.
As time went on, though, it became more difficult to
get a clean install of Fedora Core, after version 4,
on the two AMD64 machines that I have running.
On the laptop, Ubuntu installed with no problems. It
even configured the wireless card, which never worked
under Fedora Core. Probably it used ndiswrapper to do
so, as the chipset for that particular card was not
supported, but the result is what counts.
When I applied the automatic updates, I was offered an
opportunity to upgrade to version 7.04 (from version
6.06). It took a long time due to the download, but I
didn't have to bother to download the .iso and burn a
CD image.
All in all, I'm a happy camper. Next challenge is to
get a 64-bit version of Ubuntu installed on the
AMD-based machines.
