[Ham-Linux] creating a new log in, what version is best for Ham apps?

yes, and they just released a new version yesterday

I prefer one of the *buntu dirivatives called Xubuntu, you can download it here:

their "Alternative" release is directed towards low memory (64mb) computers

"Minimum system requirements
To run the Desktop CD (LiveCD + Install CD), you need 128 MB RAM to run or 192 
MB RAM to install. The Alternate Install CD only required you to have 64 MB RAM."

also Xubuntu uses XFCE as it's desktop which is also a little more friendly to 
low end computers. Lots of online help can be found in their wiki's
