Serial port adapter devices vary widely as to Linux
and hardware device compatability.
I have a USB-Serial adapter and sometimes it works
and sometimes not.
I am told that the $34. Radio Shack USB-Serial adapter
works well, have not tried it. I have not tried a
PCMCIA-Serial adapter either.
Have you tried an Internet search for discussions
about your specific device?
Go to: http://clusty.com
Enter: "devicename linux"
I can usually find references to devices where someone
has tested them already.
