I had problems getting packet to work with Mandriva 2006. It uses kernel
2.6.12. On googling about, I found an advice that in the 2.6 series of
kernels, support for AX.25 in releases prior to 2.6.14 is broken. I
downloaded and compiled 2.6.16-11, and that seems to have fixed the problem.
The error message no longer appears, although I am still having issues at the
port configuration stage.

I have forgotten what kernel Mandrake 10.1 uses, but there is a 2.4 kernel on
the installation CDs which should be O.K.

Doug.
