I am writing this on an old Dell Latitude CPx with a 400 mHz processor
and 256 megs of RAM. It is no barn burner but for this type of stuff it
is acceptable. I think a lot of it has to do with what one expects from
a system. I use this box to edit digital photos for email with GIMP and
am working on a slide presentation for a packet group meeting. Yes if I
get more than one application going at once I notice a degradation in
speed but I live with it. I bought this laptop for less than $300 and
it has been a good work horse. It came from the referb dealer with
Windows 98 installed and it took me all of five seconds to decide to
blow that away and install SuSe. I have since installed Fedora Core 3
on it and am now running Core 4. So far I'm very happy with the
results. This will become my portable packet machine at some point down
the road when I get a faster laptop for general use.

The Box said "Win95,98,2000 NT4.0 or better" So I installed Linux !
