Dave, you are over my little head when you said Xp,
but maybe two suggestions:

Take a look at the help website for Xp,

And, do you know any college IT networking people,
they fight this same fight everyday with intergrating all
the programs into their networks.

Hello All,

I'm trying to connect a small home network with two computers, unfortunately
one of them is a Windows Xp box and the other is my Linux box runniing
redhat 8.0..  I can ping the windows machine from the linux box ok but can't
ping the linux box from the windows XP machine.

I've tried configuring Samba but to no avail anyone on the list able to
help?
