[Ham-Linux] Development tools

Hi,

	This is my first posting to the list. I am considering developing some
rig control software for Linux using the Eclipse development
system...Two reasons...one because I want to control my K2 when it is
built, my Ft817 and Ts 570 from a lapop...secondly because i want to
learn Java. Eclipse looks like the tool to use because it is free and
has an ide....Does any one out there have any experience of usineg
Eclipse or any other advice to offer?
