The only thing I would add here is that any kind of software like this
be "*nix", not just Linux. There are a few of us running *BSD, SunOS,
or other flavors of *nix, and portability even between those OS's can be
tricky.
I think with the announcement of the work on the Hinternet, you might
see both more software and hardware hackers get their ham licenses. If
that takes place, you'll be guaranteed to see more *nix apps for ham
radio.
