Hi, Leif and all!

Re:gif files

Unisys is not making any friends, that is clear. But they don't care I
guess; they are only interested in making money.

While I had never paid attention to PNG files before my systems (Win98
and RHL 7.2) both have ability to read png files. I know this because I
went to websites with png files and they display fine. I use Netscape
as my BroWser. Now that I know png exists I did update libpng to the
latest version listed for RHL 7.2, by going to
http://www.libpng.org/pub/png/libpng.html .

But the real reason for this email is to ask if there is a nice
conversion program out there (I don't care if it is windows or linux)
that will batch convert my gif files to png files.

I'd like to change the gifs to pngs but can't really see using PSP to
one by one do it manually.

I'm hoping someone has written a utility so I can go:
[whatevercommand] *.gif *.png
and have all the gif files in a directory converted to png files. I
suspect this is on the PNG-supporting Libraries and Toolkits with PNG
Support page, but I was blown away by all of the choices there and the
few I tried didn't look right or gave me Error 404 when I went to the
URL. http://www.libpng.org/pub/png/pngaptk.html has the list that
boggled my brain.

Also: if I do convert all of the gif files on my website to png files,
what percentage of those browsing the web WOULD NOT be able to view the
png files? While I'd like to change just so the Unisys giant won't come
after THIS little guy, if many won't be able to read my files I won't do it.

I downloaded stuff thinking perhaps I'd tackle the Linrad changes from .gif to .png and quickly realized that I was 10 miles out to sea and coundn't swim. So I will take the tack of changing the .gifs ti .pngs . Camouflage is better than no flage.

For the "what is Linrad question" it is the best weak signal receiver in existence. Needs a LITTLE bit of hardware in front of it. IT stands for LINux RADio. Leif SM5BSZ has been working on it for over 2 years, and it was preceded by his DOS version in about 1995 I think. I put the links in a previous email to the list, but here they are again as the question came well AFTER I sent the links.
