[Ham-Linux] Need help on DSL

That'll depend a lot on how your ISP provides DSL connectivity. I claim =
no expertise with the NetGear router - my experiences have been limited =
to using the Linksys "equivalent".

If your ISP requires using PPP Over Ethernet (PPPoE), you'll have to =
install and configure that software. PPPoE can probably be recognized =
on your XP system by whether you had to enter username and password =
information just to gain connectivity - not for email access. It may =
also depend on whether the NetGear router provides the PPPoE support =
internally - my Linksys router can do this.

If your ISP does not require PPPoE, all you should need to do is =
configure DHCP on the router and your client machines. This would be =
unless you want to be able to open a window in the router to enable some =
services on your system(s) to be visible from the outside world. If all =
the info for the DHCP server is set up right in the router, it should =
provide the Linux box with an IP address as well as info on the =
addresses of your ISP's DNS servers.

Hope that helps!
