[Ham-Linux] Configuring AX25 Question

I am trying to build a dx cluster using the dx spider application on my
linux computer (redHat 7.3). In order to do this I need ax25 and netrom
support (i think). I have tried building the kernel two ways with the
ax25 stuff included directly into the kernel and as a module.

My problem is that in order to support netrom I think there should be
devices /dev/nr0 .. /nr3 but these devices do not appear in the /dev
directory.

How is nr0 .. nr3 added to the list of devices? Is there another
command, besides building the kernel, I need to run in order to add
these devices?

Any advice or a pointer to relevant documentation is appreciated.
