From wa5cab at cs.com Fri Feb 1 17:28:29 2019 From: wa5cab at cs.com (Robert Downs) Date: Fri, 1 Feb 2019 16:28:29 -0600 Subject: [Ham-Computers] (no subject) Message-ID: <00ba01d4ba7d$755a5680$600f0380$@com> I am using Outlook 2007 for most of my email these days but apparently the .PST file is still the format as used with Outlook 97 (or 1997) and back. Every few weeks, I keep getting a warning message saying that it has reached the maximum size and that I should change over to the version used with Outlook 2003 and later. But never any instructions or choice to make the change (and I have to go and find mail to delete to keep it under the limit). Does anyone recall how to do that? Robert Downs From jeffv at op.net Fri Feb 1 17:44:42 2019 From: jeffv at op.net (jeff) Date: Fri, 1 Feb 2019 17:44:42 -0500 Subject: [Ham-Computers] (no subject) In-Reply-To: <00ba01d4ba7d$755a5680$600f0380$@com> References: <00ba01d4ba7d$755a5680$600f0380$@com> Message-ID: <951b45ec-27d4-a8c8-38e6-c14afb6a6b8a@op.net> I'm not sure about an update, but I want to warn you about the files: they're very fragile and prone to break if you're even near the limit. Sometimes you can fix them, sometimes not. Back up your working file, if you haven't already. I *think* you can archive things to a different file, which should clean out your main PST. This is one of the reasons they updated the format. Just specify a different file than your PST. You might be archiving already if it's set to by default. I can't remember specifics, but MS help is actually decent (it has to be). If you want a different email reader, there are converters. I'd recommend something recent, as 2007 is no longer supported and there's all sorts of nasties you can get from email. FWIW, I've been using Thunderbird (it runs on most OSes) forever. Maybe a more current Outlook. Good luck.
