[Ham-Computers] Lost system tray

I would like to thank those that took time to respond to my query.
Most of what was suggested I had done, but I did it again. No dice. I
booted up again today and the same problem occurred. After fiddling
around trying to overcome the problem and about 10 minutes later, the
systray seemed to come back on it's own.
My shack is remote from my house. I use a wireless card for internet
connections to a router in my house. The systray did not show the icon
in the system tray as it usually does and initially, plus I had no
wireless connectivity. Could not get "Control panel>network
connections" to display anything either. However in a few minutes the
wireless card connected on it's own. Not sure what I did if anything
that caused it.
However, I still have the problem of many of my TSR background program
icons are no longer displayed, such the "network" or "team viewer"
icons, etc.
The TSR anti Virus icon does display as it should. But any minimized
program buttons will not go into the systray as they should. They
minimize just above the systray. If I try to drag them down into the
systray, they disappear.
Been using PC's since the mid 80's starting with DOS 3 then 5 and a
little later Win 3.3 and up. In the back of my mind, I seem to remember
there are some simple app commands where one can configure what displays
and where, but I can't remember what to look for or maybe I'm confusing
this with another function.
Obviously something is not right yet. So I'm still open to
suggestions. All inputs are appreciated.
I know I am going to have to upgrade to another Windows product
eventually. I am just trying to keep WinXp going for a little while
longer. This computer has a lot of really good XP programs that I don't
believe will work with Win 8 or 10. Win 7 might serve as a possible
buffer for a while. But at 78 years young, I'm not looking forward to
all the work and expense it will take to upgrade.

I'm no longer young enough to know everything!
