[Ham-Computers] Lost system tray, how to restore? WinXP pro SP3

I know this list is mostly for ham programs but I have a WinXP problem 
maybe someone can offer some help.  This is my "ham computer" on my 
operating desk.

I usually leave my computer on all the time and reboot it periodically.  
However earlier this week it locked up and I had to shut it down via the 
power switch.  When I rebooted all came back on except the systems tray 
down at the bottom of the screen, is missing.  Thus no start icon plus 
background operating program icons and minimized program icons.

Have searched the web for a clue of what to do, but have found nothing 
useful.  I am yet unable to restore/enable the system tray and 
associated icons.  I've been able to work around it some, but would like 
to get it fixed.

Can anyone on the list offer some guidance?
