[Ham-Computers] Copy OS?

Message from 30 year tech. 1.Better to install a FRESH O/S install on a FORMATTED Hard Drive. 2. There is a connecting device from your machine to the external HD for about $15,00. 3. Win XP is a security played O/s and no longer supported. 4. Win 7 is still available on E Bay and for the most part is back wards compatible. WARNING O/S is not generally copied over complete...unless you use a "Special Program" that copys bit by bit at the lowest level .

If you are using LINUX or Unix yes you can, I have done it, if not, no.
