[Ham-Computers] Trojans in Update Software

On our three machines (2 XP & 1 WIN8) I run whatever the current version of
Norton is (because it's "free" from our ISP, Comcast). In the last two
days, Iit has claimed to have blocked two software updates, one for Google
Chrome and one for Adobe Reader 11.?. In between, it passed a FireFox update.
I don't actually use either program (but keep them as backups mainly for
checking if I have a problem with FireFox or Acrobat X) so not having the
update isn't a major issue. But has anyone else encountered this? There are two
possibilities, one that Norton is screwed up and two that someone is
actually either hacking legitimate updates or spoofing them. And it would be
prudent to find out which.
