[Ham-Computers] Can a 12MB Fiber Line Support a Personal Cloud?

I am considering the alternatives between a cloud host
like linode.com, one that has already been set up and
that someone else would maintain, and a personal cloud
physically located at home.

Would a 12MB fiber line be sufficient if I didn't drive
too much traffic to my home cloud-server, in addition to
my personal use (and that of family members)?

What I would do in order to minimize non-family load
is to serve documents (esp. images and large files)
via free services like Dropbox, etc.

WDYT?

Note: For data-preservation purposes I have planned to
locate a mirror-server at home - should I not host my
own cloud - so that piece of hardware is already in the
plan (though it would have to be beefed-up and mirrored
locally if I do choose a personal cloud).

Question: Is there reason why "virtual mainframe" is not
a fair synonym for the cloud?
