[Ham-Computers] Internet Explorer Script Error Problems

I'm having problems with an old Dell Computer running Win XP owned by a friend.

He had major virus issues, which I fixed by using the Dell PC Restore.

PC Restore causes the computer to return to original factory settings
by using control - F11 during startup. Everything added since then
is lost, but that was no problem since he had added nothing. He just
used it for simple on-line games. After using PC Restore, I updated
Windows (windowsupdate.microsoft.com) , deleted the old anti-virus
trial version app, and installed Norton 360.

Everything was fine until he started a game that required Adobe
Shockwave. The game automatically started a Shockwave download, and
he used the run (immediately) option instead of saving and running it
later. Afterwards, an Internet Explorer Scrip Error message window
appeared, saying.

An error has occurred in the script on this page

Line 195
Char 1
Error 'nwNews.1.2[...].0' is null or not an object
Code 0 etc.

An option is given to run or not run the script, but nothing works
ok. The message appears every time IE is started.

I uninstalled and reinstalled Shockwave to no avail. Changing the
startup link from Dell to msn.com didn't help either, other than
changing the script error details.

I installed Firefox, and it works fine.

Any suggestion on fixing IE? I prefer Firefox, but IE is needed for
Windows updates (and my friend may prefer IE).

Jim
