That's why I have two clip-on tuners. The one with the LCD and the
colored LED display is good indoors or on a dark stage, but washes out
completely outdoors in the sun. The LCD display on the unlit one is
visible with normal indoor lighting or outdoors, though it is rather
small so you have to "squint" to see it.
As a side note, the BOSS GT-10 floor Multi-effects processor that I just
got (thanks to tax refund) has a really fine tuner built in that is nice
and large and visible in any light, so the clip-ons will get less use in
the future. That's all for the Fender American Tele as my acoustic also
has a built in tuner (one can never have too many tuners, so long as
they all agree ;-).
