: If your Laptop has the WiFi built in (My Acer does) you shouldn't need
: anything else. Otherwise you'll need to get a WiFi card that fits
: whatever kind of "slot" your machine has.
It is a Compaq Presario 1685, "Designed For Microsoft Windows 98" with one
dual-height PCMCIA slot on the side. I've upgraded to 98SE.
I would need some sort of WiFi card for this slot and the necessary drivers
for it.
I know nothing of this and only used a PCMCIA slot once on an old 80586/120
for dial-up.
I hear there is 802.11 in various forms, what is the current standard, or,
what would I need to accesss what is most likely out there?
I figure I MIGHT have to get something slightly older that meets the current
systems but has the older drivers, maybe some "new old stock" off ebay or
something.
I saw a "WiFi" card at Fry's a few months ago, the compatability went back
to 98SE, just simple drivers, I guess, is this what I should be looking for?
Any input appreciated.
Kurt
