[Ham-Computers] USB to Ethernet Adaptor?

Do you happen know whether two back to back "serial servers" (one plugged 
into a computer and the other plugged into some other device and both 
connected to a router) would look to the devices on each end as though they were 
connected by a serial cable?

As for APC specifically, I've used them for decades, all the way up to 5 KW 
with a three hour run time.  Until just recently when they started making 
those dust collecting shoe-box looking things, I wouldn't have used anything 
else.
