Subject: [Ham-Computers] Dual boot problem update

After a frustrating week of working on this problem I finially got it! HP
says that they do not support a dual boot system on their machines and it
will not work. . . .

Some background:

First, I tried adding a second hard drive and wanted to boot XP from that
drive. Did not work.

Second, I tried re-partitioning the original 1TB drive with two equal
partitions, installing Win 7 on one and XP on the other; Win 7 would work FB
but XP had a lot of freeze-ups, IE would close on it's own and several other
problems.

Third, the only way I could get the dual boot system to work ok was the
following:
First, set the controller to IDE instead of AHCI.
Second, install the original 1TB drive as primary and
Third, install additional drive as secondary.

Then I installed Win7 on the primary and XP on the secondary. VIOL! It
worked......

BTW, the machine is a new HP 6318f.

Just thought that someone might be able to use this info.
