Doc,
A nice thing about Anti-Malware applications is that you can have, and perhaps should have, more than one and all running concurrently. At least in "shopping" you might want to look at that possibility. The Microsoft Anti-Malware is one I've used since it was released. It was free then, and free updates arrive at regular intervals, usually on Patch Tuesday. I also use and really like in Webroot's Spy Sweeper without their virus protection application:
www.webroot.com
Webroot updates spy signatures daily or more often, deleting those that they think are safe to discard. Ask them pre-purpose questions at support at webroot.com. I subscribe three years at a time to keep my annual cost lower.
I also use Webroot's Window Washer to really clean all traces and tracks on each power down.
More info on direct if needed.

At the risk of opening a giant can of worms, what recommendations can
anyone give me for a good anti-malware program? We already have good
anti-virus programs, but my XYL has now been hit three times with the
"Antivirus Soft" malware. The anti-malware we have now will clean it AFTER
the fact, but we want to install something that will prevent the darn thing
BEFORE it moves in!
Free would be a fringe benefit, but we'll be happy with something
reasonably priced, as long as it works.
Tnx in advance es 73
