Gene,

I'm glad you found the problem.  We also once used CA (but didn't have any 
problems I can recall), until Comcast bought out the local Roadrunner 
system.  I was going to suggest as another free security package you consider 
Microsoft Security Essentials which we have been using since Comcast quit using 
McAfee and shifted over to Norton.  However, as you mentioned not having the 
original XP CD for that machine, you might better avoid the MS product as 
the hidden gotcha is that during installation, it "validates" (or some such 
buzzword) the copy of the OS on the machine.
