Usually the issue is a damaged device driver, excessive program loaded in START UP or damaged O/s. Some times ...its just the O/s currupting itself over a long period of time. How much RAM memory do you have MINimum 2 mg for XP 4 for Windows 7

Subject: [Ham-Computers] XP PRO SLOW PROBLEM(s)
XP PRO service pack 3 w/all latest updates.
2.39 GHz AMD Athlon.
2 GB RAM.
144 GB HDD w/125 GB free space.
Machine takes a long time to load to "usable" desktop.
Takes a long time to shut down.
Takes a long time for programs to load from either start menu or quick launch icons.
On boot up quick launch icon load quickly but task bar icons take a long time.
Desktop icons load quickly.
Clicking on embedded links takes a long time to load page and sometimes do not work at all.
Have defragged HDD and registry.
Checked for virus, worm and Trojan problems.
Run SpyBot S & D and removed all 'problems'.
Does anyone have an idea on why this machine is so SLOW????
Your help will be greatly appreciated!
(I know the best way would be to reinstall the OP system, but I do not have the OP system CD)
