Thanks to all those who responded.
FWIW, I finally beat Easy Media into submission. Since I own two legit
copies of both V7 and V8, they are also free. But I'll keep the names of the
two other diskburners I received. JIC.
I discovered that (a) I was unnecessarily (unwittingly?) installing one of
the bells and whistles I didn't want. And that (b) something must have gone
wrong during the previous install. Although I thought I had set the eject
defaults to leave the disk as writable, I discovered that every time I
ejected a disk, it was changing back to setting it for use on other computers.
Which set the write-protect flag (maybe among other things). I must have
once ejected it without noticing it was going to do this.
So I uninstalled V7. Then ran Registry Mechanic, rebooted, ran RegMech
once more just to be sure. And then installed V8 with nothing but Drag to Disc
selected. Loaded the disk that I previously was unable to write to. And
successfully backed up our !@#$% tax return. I honestly think that the
problem wouldn't have been nearly as aggravating if I had been doing something I
wanted to do instead of had to. :-)
