[Ham-Computers] Windows XP and CD/DVD-R/RW

Is Windows XP supposed to have any native capability to handle CD-R, DVD-R, 
DVD+R or any of the other variants without loading some 3rd Party software? 
 I've used Roxio Easy CD then Easy Media for years under W2K.  But it's 
been behaving wierdly since I changed the OS on this machine from W2K to XP Pro 
(and whatever the latest SP is).  And right now I've a disk stuck in the 
DVD drive that I think rebooting the machine and not trying to look at it will 
be required before it will eject.
