Its there but I'll try to explain without pictures
All PCI slots (PCI and PCI-X) sit the same distance from the slot opening
PCI-X Slots are longer than normal PCI slots
PCIe slots are usually smaller, sit a little farther back from the
slot opening, but can be the same size as a PCI/X slots The important
thing is that the "key" slot is reversed.
AGP slots fit further back from the opening and are usually a different color
I would say its a PCI-X slot but you say it sits further back than the
normal PCI slots.
Did you look up the mother board specs and see what is listed?
