[Ham-Computers] Linux Questions - More

Thanks to all for your inputs. I finally resolved the problem as follows:

I didn't really need a dual boot of two Ubuntu versions, so
reinstalled only the latest version. I updated Firefox, and Ubuntu
decided to update, too. Updates were completed without any problems
with inadequate space. The CRT monitor on another computer had
failed earlier and I replaced it with a flat screen. The extra table
top space was handy, so I connected the computer with Ubuntu to the
flat screen. To my pleasant surprise, I had a satisfactory
"picture". My "Beginning Ubuntu Linux from Novice to Professional"
book said the default settings usually worked fine, and I realized
that the older version probably was set up for a CRT monitor and the
current version for a flat screen.

Gene, If you are still having CD burning issues after resolving the
zip problem, I'll look up the freeby 3rd party software Ubuntu
recommended. I had no problems burning a CD-R.

Jim
