For others who may try the Open Office Word Processor, I found an
easy solution to the page numbering issue.
From my experience, the best approach for a newby is to purchase a
book on the subject. Forums are useful, but books are more likely to
include all data a newby needs. I went to Amazon.com the searched
for Open Office books. I also read some reviews and an on-line book
was suggested,
see

It gave the answer. Go to Search>fields. I find a header (a small
rectangular area at the top of each page) is a handy place to put
this data. Go to search>header. I used the default header. After
some experimenting. I discovered I could also add the document name,
date created, date modified, etc. Instead of being <1% as easy as
Microsoft Word, it is now over 95% as easy.

Now that the page numbering issue is fixed, I tried a USB flash
drive. It was not recognized. Surprising, since flash drives have
been available for years and Ubuntu was upgraded not too long ago. I
read some forums, and should be able to figure it out. However,
these experiences give me a new appreciation for Microsoft products.
