I know the database is "huge", but a lot of programs themselves are tens of
megs.  Even hueristic reference for 10,000 viruses is only a couple megs of
text at best.  Many years ago, after some two decades of virus production on
more OS's than I can count, top shelf AV programs and their signature files
fit on three floppies tops.

Things have changed, clearly not for the best.
