[Ham-Computers] Follow-up on OLED displays

Hi all,

Just thought I'd add a follow-up to the discussion of Organic LED
displays earlier this year. After attending this past weekend's TRW
swapmeet in Manhattan Beach (CA), I swung by the nearby Best Buy store
looking for a handheld camera accessory. This particular Best Buy had
the upscale "Magnolia" department with higher-end audio/video equipment,
so I "walked-in" to take a look. Over in a darker corner of a demo
room, I saw a small, very *bright* display. A closer look revealed that
it's an OLED TV! It seems that Sony just started shipping the world's
first OLED TV. It's only 11 inches diagonal, but as I have seen at CES
the past couple of years, the picture quality is mighty impressive -
especially for such a small display.

The cost is a bit steep (also as expected) - $2,499. Wow, I expected
the 15 to 17 inch models to come in at this price point, not the 11-inch
models. But this is Sony, so the higher price makes sense.

Here are some specs:

  Model: XEL-1
  Panel type: OLED
  Screen size (diag): 11 inches
  Resolution: 960 x 540
  Tuner: NTSC, ATSC (DTV), QAM
Inputs: 2x HDMI, 1x RF (Coax)
  Outputs: 1x Headphone or Optical
  Power: 16v @ 3.75a
  Weight: 4.25 lbs

It's a smart looking panel that would go great on any desk, but $2500 is
way more than I would spend on a 11" display! Anyways, if you're
interested in seeing what I've been raving to others about for the past
year, head down to your local Magnolia (Best Buy) and take a look. Oh,
and here's a link to the product page on Sony's website:

I started and ended the link with "***", so if it gets chopped, cut and
paste everything between the "***".

73,
