 Hi Loren,

Here's a link to the HP support page for the C712NR laptop:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/product?product=3619345&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&lang=en

(If the link gets "chopped", goto http://support.hp.com and enter the model number C712NR)

Unfortunately, there are very few "official" XP drivers as the laptop shipped with Vista. That's OK as we can use the "generic" drivers provided by the OEM vendor or a driver listed under a different model laptop. However, since this a "newer" laptop, let's take a step back and make sure everything is being installed properly and in correct order.

With any Windows installation, you need to make sure that all the appropriate motherboard and device specific drivers are installed immediately after WinXP itself is installed (and often the drivers need to be installed in a proper order). A rough guideline for installation order can be found here:

http://forums13.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/bizsupport/questionanswer.do?threadId=1142373

Scroll down a bit to the response I posted. Modify the list as appropriate for your particular laptop (e.g. don't worry about the Protect Tools security manager).

Here's some links to vendors for the drivers you need:

Intel Chipset:

Intel 965GM Video:
http://tinyurl.com/3yneyo

Realtek NIC:
http://tinyurl.com/2qva6t

Broadcom Wireless:
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp34001-34500/sp34152.exe

Microsoft UAA Update (required for the sound card to be recognized):
http://tinyurl.com/2d2cbs

And additional drivers (inlcuding the Conexant HDAudio) should work from the C552US laptop:
http://tinyurl.com/3dqxdn

In this case, specifically with the audio, you most likely need the MS UAA update as this is a "core" component for "HD" Audio to be recognized. But, make sure you've also installed all the other drivers as necessary.

Full disclosure: some of this info was "mined" from the HP support forums. I use to participate in that forum, but time's lacking these days. Good luck with the re-install and let me (us) know if you need more details.

73,

  - Aaron, NN6O
