Quick reply and I am not an expert. Win 7 is similar to Vista in what it
runs. It fixes some of the annoyances of Vista and is much more enjoyable
to use. The Ultimate (expensive) version has a downloadable free option to
run in XP mode. But, it is basically XP running in a Win 7 session and can
be limited. I am not surprised that programs from the Win 98 era and some
early XP era programs will not run in Win 7. Of course anything that needs
a driver would even be less likely to run.

Subject: [Ham-Computers] Assistance With CDS And Win 7

Hello All,

My grandson has a new computer operating under Windows 7. He is experiencing
a lot of problems when he tries to run programs on CD that worked with his
XP Home Edition operating system.

Maybe I heard, or understood, this wrong, but I thought that Win 7.0 was
retrocompatible to at least XP HE/Pro and possibly Windows 98 SE? Wrong? Or?

I also understood that the new OS would work with older software that Vista
would not. Correct? Or?

So my friends, how does the grandson make the CD for XP, or older, work with
Win 7.0?

Thanks guys!
