[Ham-Computers] "lexplore"????

Hi Robert,

Thanks for responding!
I installed Windows 2000 but have not replaced Windows Me. Now, when I boot up, I get a choice between 2000 and ME.
If I select Me, it comes up but if I don't select it, 2000 comes up but is not on the internet, etc.
I have long suspected there is something deep in this machine that escapes detection. At times I have gotten a message
saying unable to do something because something else is running but I have no indication what that something else is.
I don't know what version of IE and my plan is not to run both. I just want to get someone to "copy" essential files over
into 2000, then have my ISP change me over the 2000. After that, I could bring whatever files I want to keep from ME
and eventually "uninstall" ME - I don't want that darn program in this machine.

If I can learn how to bring those directories, files, etc. over to 2000, I suppose I could with my ISP's directions change
my internet operating system over or have them do it with my information.
I do not want to run Windows ME, just have it available but not active on the internet so I can pick out what I want to
keep. I don't want all the stuff I have accumulated down thru these years over into Windows 2000.

Can you give me, step by step,or rather command by command how to "copy" from ME over into 2000? If I can do that,
then maybe I won't have to have someone come here and do it for me. I don't think the "move" command would be a
good idea because if I goofed and lost the file, the copy in ME would be gone. If I can first "copy" a file over then I could
"delete" it in ME.
Robert, don't spend much time in my behalf but if you can help I'd surely appreciate it!
Take care,

Ken N5CM

  Ken,

We are still running 2000 on two of our machines here and I can't recall ever having the sort of problems you've mentioned. I gather your machine had ME on it and you replaced it with 2000. Did you do a new install from scratch or some sort of update? Which version of Internet Explorer are you running? I don't think I would try to run 7 with 2000.
