Brian, I'm curious too. It's a nuisance issue on my XP machines. In my case it does not happen very often. I doubt that it is a single driver. In my experience it isn't limited to CD or DVD drives any more than to floppy or zip drive, all of have their own driver. When it happens, and surely it's an OS issue, I can't read one device, internal or external, any better than another. It most recently happened after a Flash upgrade. I have experienced it after Adobe Reader updates. To my knowledge it has not happened after McAfee or Webroot updates, but I certainly could be wrong. When I Start/Reset all again is well until the next time. When and if a Microsoft report screen comes up, and that does not happen every time so it may not be a OS issue, I send the report.

Subject: [Ham-Computers] CD-ROM question
Ok everybody here's a good question I think.
I had never seen this before till today.
Say for example you have a cd-rom on you're desktop, and you put a cd in it,
light comes on that cd works, BUT you go to "My Computer" and it doesn't
show up there.
Driver's not loaded??
Thanks,
Brian
